Meioh Setsuna - Opinion Piece

| Opinion on Meioh Setsuna Setsuna is my least favorite Outer Senshi, but then again, I love all the Outer Senshi, so her being my least favorite Outer isn't that low a ranking. ^_^ The main reason I like her the least is basically because to me she's the least interesting Outer Senshi. Some people think that she is VERY interesting because she's so mysterious and because her appearances and interventions are so rare, but to me that makes her less interesting. True, a lot of the time the less I know about a character the more I'm curious about him or her (like Hotaru/Sailor Saturn, whom I absolutely love), but it didn't work that way for me and Puu. ^^ Don't ask me why, it's just didn't. Plus, I really don't like Kawashima's portrayal of Setsuna's voice: the quiet, deep aspect of the voice is perfect, but the timbre of the voice is off and a bit odd, in my opinion. She screams really weird too. *L* ^^; I still like Setsuna a whole lot though; after Michiru, I think Setsuna and Rei are the prettiest Senshi. Hotaru is pretty too, but she's pretty in the "cute" sense of the word, and Haruka... well, Haruka is damn good-looking (I wish she was a guy XD) but her looks are of an entirely different category than Michiru or Hotaru's. XD Plus, you gotta give Setsuna credit for having darker skin than all the other Senshi. :p I read this terrible fanfic once where this guy explained Setsuna's skin tone by saying she was Greek by way of the Moon Kingdom... THE HELL!? o.o Obviously that author didn't realize that there are lots of Asian people who aren't pale white and actually do have Setsuna's skin tone (like myself and my boyfriend), but I'm digressing. XP Opinion on Setsuna's Transformations and Attacks I absolutely love Setsuna's transformation sequence as well as her "dead scream" attack sequence. Although I do like Michiru and Haruka's transformations and attacks better than Setsuna's, they win out by a very narrow margin: I love ALL the Outer Senshi's transformations and attacks (even "silent wall" :p) so much that it's very difficult for me to rank them in order of preference. What I like best about Setsuna's transformation sequence is the variety of camera angles used: you start out with a shot of her hand, and then there's an overhead shot of Setsuna, then a shot of the Garnet Orb on the Garnet Rod, and then one zooms in from Setsuna's upper body to a close-up shot of her face. It's all very well done. ^^ "Dead scream" is quite nice too: I hate the way Pluto's face looks at the beginning of the sequence (damn that huge Taiki-like forehead! ;_;), but the attack itself, with all the clouds cascading down in the background, is lovely. Opinion on Setsuna's Duds When she's not in Senshi form, Setsuna wears rather dorky and overdone clothes in my opinion, and for a girl who sews and dreams of becoming a fashion designer I think she could do much better. *L* :p I like her Sailor Pluto outfit better than her Super Sailor Pluto outfit because the Super Sailor Pluto outfit is too overdone and busy, while the original outfit was more sleek, simple, and classy. |
