Tomoe Hotaru - Opinion Piece

| Opinion on Tomoe Hotaru Hotaru is my second favorite Outer Senshi after Michiru. The reasons I like her are quite diverse - first of all, Hotaru is extremely pretty, but in more of a cute/elegant/goth way than in a busty/robust/blunt way, and her looks, coloring, and hairstyle make her look VERY similar to my mother. ^_^ Secondly, voice actor Minaguchi Yuuko does a DAMN good job, giving Hotaru a clear/wistful/adorable voice and Sailor Saturn a rich/intense voice. Absolutely gorgeous voice acting. For anyone who loves Minaguchi's work as Hotaru's voice as much as I do, I suggest that you try getting a hold of Koko wa Green Wood - it is a six-episode series and Minaguchi Yuuko is the voice of a ghost in one of the episodes. I also like the "lonely" aspect of Hotaru - I admit it's kind of cheesy in that Hotaru is the classic example in anime of the "person with unique powers who gets left out all the time cause people think she/he is a freak." Still, her angst scenes are a lot nicer and more nicely constructed than any of the Inner Senshi's introverted/contemplative sequences (in my opinion, at least ^_^), and one can't help but empathize with Hotaru to SOME degree, no matter how one feels about her character in general. And then there's the fact that Hotaru can heal wounds, and that as Sailor Saturn she can destroy entire planets with her power and look adorable while doing it. She's got a lot going for her. o_o Also, I like Hotaru cause her father Souichi is so damn cute. :p White hair and nerdy glasses and a doctor-ish lab coat, woohoo! Time for an examination! XD *urm...* x.x;;; Opinion on Hotaru's Transformations and Attacks Well, seeing as Hotaru never had a transformation sequence in the anime (which pissed off Takeuchi Naoko, actually ^^), I can't really have an opinion on a transformation sequence that doesn't exist, but anyway. :p I think "silence block"/"silent wall" is a rather boring form of defense for a Senshi as powerful as Saturn and I like Michiru and Haruka's attacks better than Hotaru's, but I did love "silence glaive surprise." The first time I saw/heard the big explosion that came with Saturn's "silence glaive surprise," I think my face looked like this: O_O! *L* Opinion on Hotaru's Duds When she's not in Senshi form, I think Hotaru looks the prettiest in the dark purple/black clothing she wore a lot in Sailormoon S, as opposed to the cutesy outfits she tended to wear in SailorStars - black and purple go a lot better with Hotaru. :p Also, I prefer her Sailor Saturn outfit to her Super Sailor Saturn outfit because the Sailor Saturn outfit is drawn better and is more pretty, from the short sleeves that look like flower petals on her shoulders to the beautiful crystals on her choker and the ribbon covering her chest. |
