Tsukino Usagi - Opinion Piece
| Opinion on Tsukino Usagi Along with Makoto, Usagi is my least favorite Inner Senshi. Like I say at my Makoto opinion page, it's not that I hate Usagi - I think it's stupid to be hateful to people, let alone 2-D anime characters o_o - but it's just that I don't really connect with her or find her all that interesting or "cool" or "a sympathetic character." The reason I feel this way is mainly because Usagi is highly overrated. I read on so many websites about how wonderful and loving and sacrificing Usagi is no matter what flaws she might have, and that no one alive today can possibly be as good-hearted as her, blah blah blah... But frankly, I know many people just as loving, self-sacrificing, pure-hearted, and innocent as Usagi - the whole schmear - and who are even BETTER than Usagi in that they are less flawed. This isn't to say that I dislike imperfect people or that I don't find human imperfections interesting or whatever - I'm just saying that Usagi is overrated and her uniqueness is mere supposition. Another reason why Usagi is overrated is not only because people as giving as her DO exist in real life; it's also because a lot of the time Usagi does good-hearted things because she doesn't know any better. One example is when Usagi befriended Makoto on Makoto's first day at her school - some people would say that it's a sign of Usagi's good heart for befriending Makoto when no one else would, and while I agree that it was good of Usagi to go and do that and that she is a good person for doing it, if you watched that episode carefully, you'll see that Usagi's thoughts were centered on Makoto's tasty lunch, NOT on the fact that Makoto was being ostracized by the others. So yes, if you want to say that Usagi is a pure-hearted person who does good things, that's fine with me. What I dislike is people saying that Usagi is some great charitable princess who's psychically aware if and when people need help, who goes around doing nothing but good deeds and endearingly playing video games and pigging out in between kind acts. I stress that I don't hate Usagi, she's just not a character that strikes any sort of chord in me whatsoever due to the fact that I don't find her good character unique and that I find her extremely overrated. Opinion on Usagi's Transformations and Attacks I don't like Usagi's transformations and attacks as much as any of the other Inner Senshi's transformations and attacks; the Inner Senshi all have campy transformations and attacks, and Usagi's are the campiest. ^_^ I did like her "Moon crystal power" transformation though, ^.^ and the "Moon gorgeous meditation" attack has this really nice part to it where there's a close-up of the Moon kaleid scope in Super Sailor Moon's hand as she's slowly raising it. Anyway. ^^; Opinion on Usagi's Duds I liked the Super Sailor Moon outfit the best out of all of Usagi's Senshi outfits: the regular Sailor Moon outfits were too... blue and red... o_o and the Eternal Sailor Moon outfit was WAY too overdone (the skirt looked like the German flag -_-). |
